First, I would like to compliment those of you who have been citing your sources of research in your work….  GOOD JOB!

Just a reminder……..

ALL OF YOUR WORK requires scholarly research (the digital text book and classroom lectures should be your first source before using outside sources, unless otherwise instructed to do so in the assignment directions, as our class is tied closely to our classroom readings).

ALL SCHOLARLY RESEARCH must be cited per APA formatting guidelines including both IN-TEXT CITATION(S) and a REFERENCE LIST to go along with those in-text citations. Both direct quotes and paraphrasing (restating what the original Author has written) require both in-text citations and a reference list).

PLEASE REVIEW all of the available information in the course shell regarding how to cite your work per APA Formatting Guidelines.

For detailed information on the APA guidelines please review the South University Policies and Guidelines link found on the left-hand toolbar of the classroom.

SCHOLARLY RESEARCH IS NOT AN OPTION… IT IS A REQUIREMENT in all college work and deductions will apply in accordance to the assignment rubrics.

BUT WHY?

Scholarly research is essential to substantiate your thoughts and ideas for all discussion questions and assignments. I realize much of your work may be derived from “personal experience” “your opinion or thoughts” however, when writing academic work one must read the text (or other applicable sources) and utilize verbiage from them to add credibility to one’s thoughts, ideas etc. What I mean by this is for instance when reading the text (or other research sources) one must find passages, quotes etc. that coincide with one’s own experiences or thoughts thus a “scholar’s” writing supports your thought or experience so you would want to “weave” their research into your academic work (e.g. post or assignment.) Please refer to the APA guidelines as there are many great tools and resources to assist you there.

Feel free to contact me with any questions concerning scholarly research or APA.

Best,
Scott
